Count your household, plus the parents or grandparents you’re inviting. The minimum comes from IRCC’s current table, and since March 2026 either of your last two tax years can count.

## Minimum necessary income (Updated July 29, 2025)

| Family size | Minimum income (CAD) |
| --- | --- |
| 1 | $30,526 |
| 2 | $38,002 |
| 3 | $46,720 |
| 4 | $56,724 |
| 5 | $64,336 |
| 6 | $72,560 |
| 7 | $80,784 |
| More than 7 | $8,224 for each extra person |

Since March 31, 2026 the host (with a co-signing spouse or partner, if any) can meet the minimum in either of the two tax years before applying, or reach at least 75% of it with the applicants' own continuing income covering the rest. ## Questions people ask

### Who counts in the family size?

You (the host), your spouse or common-law partner (even if separated), your dependent children wherever they live, the parents or grandparents you’re inviting, anyone already here on a super visa under your letter of invitation, and anyone you sponsored whose undertaking is still in effect.

### Can my spouse’s income count?

Yes. A spouse or common-law partner can co-sign the letter of invitation, and their income is added to yours. Other relatives, such as a brother or sister, can’t co-sign.

### Can my parents’ own income count?

Since March 31, 2026, partly. If your household reaches at least 75% of the minimum, the parents’ or grandparents’ own continuing income (a pension, for example) can make up the rest, up to 25%. You need to show it will keep coming while they are in Canada.

### What proof of income does IRCC accept?

IRCC lists accepted documents such as a Canada Revenue Agency Notice of Assessment, T4 or T1 slips, an employment letter with pay stubs, and bank statements. Check the current list on IRCC’s forms and documents page before you apply.
